It seems to me that the subnet is starting to get greedy. They’re not even letting you out of the subject that we are charging you a high price I purchased score last night and I wanted to get out this morning and the lowest they had was .33 to get out. I tried to get out for over an hour and it seems to me the longer. I stay in the sub that’s the more they want to take off the top. I’m thinking of dumping the whole program. It’s a shame.
I would have thought the liquidity on Score is quite good Keith, but slippage on quick trades can seriously eat into your profits. I think the easiest thing is to stay in root or use something like Crucible Smart Allocator to invest your yields passively in alpha tokens, so you get some exposure to the alpha upside. Especially where we are pricewise for TAO, I think conviction now when things are messy will pay huge dividends when the ecosystem matures.
The liquidity on score was very good. It just seems that there’s a metamorphosis occurring where they’re taking more profit usually would get you would be able to get out at the most .03 but now it’s gone up 10 times the amount only in crucial situations but I found a way around it. I just went through Menta plus instead of Taostats and I was able to get out that way thank you. I appreciate the answer. I was just a little vexed about it.
Great work Brian. The big takeaway for me is that dTAO replaced “passive yield” with forced capital allocation.
The hard part is that most retail holders are not devs. Keeping up with subnet fundamentals, taostats metrics, liquidity, and fast narrative shifts is a real job.
Your liquidity checklist is exactly the kind of practical filter people need to avoid treating alpha tokens like a 2017 roulette wheel.
Thanks Agisilaos, agreed the transition from passive yield to active allocation is the biggest hurdle for retail holders in the ecosystem right now.
That full-time job aspect is exactly why I’m focusing so much on these checklists. If we get the basics right we have a chance of surviving, but being conservative now is the smart play I think.
TAO should have a long way to run from this price point and, at this stage, if you're not sure what you're doing there is no need to risk losing it all trying to increase your wallet balance chasing price or yield pumps on subnets.
Fully agree, Brian. I’m doing the conservative thing too: keeping my TAO staked on Root for now because I don’t have the time to do subnet-level diligence properly, and half-informed allocation is a fast way to get punished in dTAO.
Emissions are still high, but the 21M cap is the anchor that keeps me comfortable holding long-term while the market structure and tooling mature.
Great article. What bothers me is that how much time and research is required on a regular basis. You can't just delegate to a few trusted subnets and then just let it ride. Therefore, I just have to trust Mentatminds to do the work for me.. I don't like it, but I'm tired of doing the work, shifting my delegations and losing money...If only there was a website hosted by a TAO expert who could make regular recommendations. Or even if I had the ability to see the most successful TAO wallets and emulate there actions. 🤷🏼♂️
I just read all about the DSV Fund and saw their strategic delegations on their X channel. I would love to say that I can just trust their expertise and conviction in those subnets, but under the new dTAO system, it is just too risky to invest that way.
Totally with you, David. Time is the real scarce asset here. It is simply not prudent for most of us to spend hours every week researching subnets, tracking emissions, and constantly rotating delegations just to avoid getting rugged by changing dynamics.
That is exactly why dTAO feels harder for retail: the “default” path now demands active work. Until we get better tooling and transparency (dashboards, track records, maybe even something like “copy the top allocators” with clear risk labels), I think being conservative is rational.
True. I'm sticking to Mentatminds for now and am just going to let them have a cut of my apy. My current strategy is 5% of my tao is allocated to the top eight performing subnets, with the remaining 60% allocated to Mentat SoS. So far I'm not losing money and am gaining some everyday. You want to have time I'm going to look more into backprop.finance. I believe it's far easier to read than taostats.io
Currently, I hold BTC, have eth in strATEGY, jupSOL, Locked $JUP, have a leveraged LJP/USDC position 🔥, dTAO but I am most focused on the Monad network. I believe it has the greatest potential for a long-term position. Thinking the hell out of it and and taking advantage of huge early Network rewards
David I fully agree also, its very complex and frustrating because buy and hold isn't a viable strategy for alpha tokens. Trusting DSV Fund or other entities is a losing game also, they are accumulating through OTC deals and we have no visibility of the timing or amount of their entry or exit prices.
I would advocate for independent research as part of a strategy, but as Agisilaos says not everyone has the time or inclination to be able to keep up with the research. Using Mentat Minds is a solid plan and as close as you can get to passive income now while also keeping exposure to alpha tokens. I also use Crucible Smart Allocator for easy deployment of my rewards to alpha tokens.
I also hold the other coins you mention, apart from one—curious what has drawn you to Monad from an investment perspective?
We’ve all seen the XRP price predictions of $30 that never materialize 🤣. The truth is, the 'Bitcoin millionaire' ship has mostly sailed for the late-comers. To see real gains now, you have to find projects with actual world utility before they're common knowledge. I’m staying away from the 'forever-presale' traps like Remittix and Bitcoin Hyper, and focusing on getting in early was something I believe in.
The fact that Monad is a Layer 1 that’s faster than Solana while remaining EVM-compatible is a game-changer. Plus, seeing Coinbase back it for their first ICO carries weight—they don't bet on vaporware. In this market, timing and tech matter more than buzz.
Considering the token is only 3 months old, there's been a lot of new development. The rewards often come to those are who invest in a project early, interact with it and are patient. So far, the rewards have been on this comically large. Google Gemini did not do me wrong when it told me to look into staking on Apriori (aprMON). I went all in on Apriori and I'm maximizing their points rewards formula. It's been a lot of fun and the rewards have been huge!
Thanks for this! I've recently started my subnet staking journey and think I’ve made the mistake of focusing on flow data a bit too much. This dTAO Liquidity Checklist is really helpful!
I am glad you mentioned the Crucible Smart Allocator and I will defiantly check it out. I'm pretty happy that it is Ledger compatible as well. From what I briefly read, it looks like it delegates to the top 20 subneta. How often do they rebalance those allocations? Is it worth whatever they charge?
There is daily rebalancing against Root, but building up to the first stake could take a few days, it depends on how much you have invested. I use it and would highly recommend giving it a try. Check out my piece on Bittensor wallets from last month, I mentioned the Smart Allocator in there too.

From what I understand, It's not a good idea to enter and exit a subnet so quickly because of the way emissions are awarded. It is complicated though

I align with your view. It is overly complex for a retail person to invest in alpha tokens.
